Run the system while you can watch it
Keep the kit name and manual beside the water route. Flush and close the lines using that manufacturer’s instructions, then observe the operating system from the source to the final outlet. Confirm each emitter, drip tape or nozzle operates; look for loose connections, leakage, spray outside the bed and pooling.
Record the selected kit, date and any unresolved check using the irrigation checker’s downloadable route and parts record. A checked tubing allowance does not prove field performance. Water pressure, the source connector, required backflow protection and all connections need their own answers.
No flow anywhere
Check the water supply and the timer’s current operating mode first. Follow the timer’s instructions to confirm power and a manual watering command. Look for a closed valve or pinched source hose. If the source itself has no water, resolve that before replacing emitters.
Shut off and relieve pressure as the manual instructs before opening components. Inspect the filter and source connection. Reassemble with the specified seals and parts, then test again. If the cause remains unclear, stop disassembly and take the kit model, source details and symptom to its support team.
Weak or uneven flow
Compare an affected outlet with one that works. A single weak outlet suggests a local kink, clog or damaged part; weakness across a whole branch calls for checking that branch and its connection. Weakness everywhere calls for a source, filter or system-sizing check. These observations narrow the search without proving the cause.
Compare the measured route with the exact family’s allowances in the kit checker. Added branches or a different tube can change the result. Do not raise pressure to compensate without checking the maker’s inlet range and regulator requirements. An unmeasured pressure stays unknown.
Visible leaks, clogged outlets and filter debris
For a visible leak, turn off the water and locate the failed joint, split tube or damaged seal. Identify the exact part and its insertion or tightening instructions. Similar nominal tubing sizes do not establish a compatible replacement. After repair, test that joint and the downstream outlets.
For a suspected clogged emitter or nozzle, use only the cleaning or replacement method the manufacturer supports. Do not enlarge its opening with a needle or assume a chemical cleaner is suitable. If several outlets clog again after cleaning, inspect the filter and source rather than repeatedly clearing only the final outlet.
Clean a serviceable filter according to its manual, inspect its seal and reinstall it correctly. If an outlet is damaged, the filter will not seat, or a repair still leaks, leave the affected system off and get the exact replacement or maker support.
Pressure: distinguish inlet and regulated output
Vego’s documented working inlet range is 20–80 PSI. Rain Bird GARDENKIT includes a 25 PSI regulator, but that output figure is not an established faucet-pressure range. Epic’s checker retains its own published minimum and unresolved limits. Open the exact family profiles before comparing a gauge reading.
Record where and under what operating conditions the pressure was measured. A static source reading and a flowing-system reading answer different questions. If the operating range is unknown or the measurement is outside it, resolve that with the manufacturer or an irrigation professional before treating hardware fit as complete.
Winter shutdown and spring restart
EPA WaterSense advises shutting off the irrigation supply and draining lines before freezing weather. Follow the selected maker’s directions for disconnecting, draining, removing and storing timers, filters, regulators and tubing. Low points can retain water; identify the drainage method for the actual installation.
This guide does not prescribe a compressed-air blowout pressure or a universal winterizing sequence. If gravity drainage cannot empty a part, use its manufacturer’s procedure or qualified service. Record which parts were removed so the spring assembly does not omit a regulator, filter or required backflow device.
Before restart, inspect for splits, loose joints and animal or tool damage. Reconnect the documented parts, flush as instructed and repeat the observed first-run check. EPA specifically recommends checking for winter damage, clogs and leaks; a timer turning on is not the whole inspection.

Epic Starter and Expansion parts keep the Starter dependency visible. Rain Bird GARDENKIT A51255 separates distribution and emitter tubing. Vego Small and Large kits use their own hose, bracket and nozzle arrangements. Open your kit’s profile for its parts list and installation manual.
When reporting a problem, note the kit/model, affected branch, recent changes, visible damage and relevant measurements. If irrigation hardware now works but the soil stays too wet or dry, assess the growing medium, crop, weather and local watering guidance. The hardware-planning guide does not prescribe a national watering duration or frequency.
